Christ Church Street Team

What is it?

A team of volunteers working with homeless people in the London Bridge area committed to sharing the gospel, praying, encouraging and giving practical help to them.

This team, recently adopted by TBT, has been making a difference in the lives of many of the homeless people in the area for the last 15 years. The work is focused around talking to and spending time with homeless people, responding to their needs (offering them a drink, sleeping bags, clothes, checking they are aware of the local services that are provided in the area), and seeking opportunties to share the gospel.

The team is closely linked in with the SPOT workers (government funded homeless workers) in the area, providing them with weekly activity updates so that they are better informed.

We have been involved on numerous occasions in talking people down from suicide; finding and helping runaway children; and, most importantly we have developed relationships with the continual rough sleepers so that we are able to share the gospel and pray with them”.

When?

Every Monday evening.

What happens?

The format of the work at the moment is as follows:

7pm: meet at local church office to recap previous week, pray and make teas, coffees, etc.

7:30: split into teams and go out on the streets around London Bridge, the City and Waterloo, where homeless people usually beg, getting to know them and giving practical help and advice.

9:30: return to office to talk through evening and pray.

10pm: finish
